Secretary Enrique T. Ona assumed as new Secretary of Health. Before his appointment by President Benigno C. Aquino III, he was the Executive Director of the National Kidney and Transplant Institute since 1998 and President of the Transplantation Society of the Philippines.

Although diabetes is inherited, it can be prevent. This is through the adoption of healthy lifestyle especially by people with family history of diabetes.
Healthy lifestyle includes:
- Eating food low in fat, low in cholesterol, less sugar, and less salt
- Eating plenty of vegetables and whole grain cereals which are high in fiber
- Maintaining normal body weight
- Exercising regularly
- Avoiding smoking and alcohol, and
- Avoiding stress
To know if one has diabetes, he or she has to undergo blood examination to determine blood sugar level.
Signs and symptoms of diabetes:
- Tiredness or weakness
- Frequent urination
- Increased hunger and thirst
- Sudden weight loss

The DOH Center for Health Development-Eastern Visayas will be hosting the Visayas-Mindanao Zonal Meeting on July 14-15,2010 a abin Beach Resort, Ormoc City.
This is the first time Eastern Visayas is hosting Ntional Events. There are about 80 participants including National figure of the DOH and representative from our development partners.
These are:

- Dr. HOWARD SOBEL, WHO Program Manager for Child Health

This acivity is participated by the different Regional Directors, Chief of reained hospitals, Chief of Treatment and Rehabilitation Centers.
Updates on WHO Tobacco Free Initiatives, Maternal and Child Health, and HIV/AIDS Epidemiology among other topics will be discussed. |
